THE WHITE HOUSE III
Knoxville, Tennessee (JFK+50) Today we continue our report of Chapter 10 of the book by Kenneth P. O’Donnell & David F. Powers with Joe McCarthy. It is published by Little, Brown & Company.
The title of Chapter 10 is THE WHITE HOUSE.
Kenneth O’Donnell writes that his desk was in the reception office next to the Oval Office.
There were 3 doors into JFK’s office.
One went through Kenny’s, one from Mrs. Lincoln, & the 3rd from the main outside corridor.
There were also doors leading out into the Rose Garden but those were to be used exclusively by LBJ & Bobby.
The main door was always closed when JFK was working inside….always open when he was not in the office.
Kenny says that people soon learned they could bypass him & get through to the President via Mrs. Lincoln’s door.
When JFK ordered that door shut at all times, Kenny tells us that soon a peephole appeared in it.
JFK said: “We can’t win.”
Mr. O’Donnell says that JFK was “the most accessible President of our time.”
JFK enjoyed meeting high school & college students & would ask them “all kinds of questions.”
