MARILYN MONROE DIES OF DRUG OVERDOSE
Hollywood, California (JFK+50) Glamorous actress & singer Marilyn Monroe was found dead early this morning of an apparent drug overdose.
Miss Monroe’s lifeless body was found by her psychiatrist, Dr. Ralph Greenson, who had been called to the home by Monroe’s housekeeper who could not get Monroe to open her locked bedroom door.
Marilyn had battled depression for months & had also been under psychiatric care since last year.

NUCLEAR TEST BAN TREATY SIGNED
Moscow, USSR (JFK+50) The Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was signed here today by representatives of the United States, Great Britain & the Soviet Union.
The treaty prohibits the testing of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere & underwater.
Secretary of State Dean Rusk signed for the United States, Alec Douglas-Home signed for Great Britain & Andrei Gromyko signed for the Soviet Union.*
*The Limited Test Ban Treaty (testing was still permitted underground) was ratified by the US Congress on September 24 & JFK signed it on Oct 7.

KENNEDY & ROSS FIND CANDY & CRACKERS
Cross Island, South Pacific (JFK50) Lt. John F. Kennedy & crewman Barney Ross made a swim to Cross Island about 1:30 in the afternoon today.
The pair walked across the island to the eastern side where they found bags of candy & crackers left by the Japanese. They also found an abandoned canoe.
JFK took the canoe into Ferguson Passage in the evening looking for a passing PT boat. Having no luck, he returned to his shipmates with the candy & crackers.
Upon his return, JFK met two friendly natives.

LINCOLN SIGNS REVENUE ACT INTO LAW
Washington, D.C. (JFK+50) President Abraham Lincoln signed into law today the 1st federal income tax in US history.
The act, signed into law at the White House, will impose a 3% tax on incomes of $800 or more.*
*Congress repealed the income tax in 1871 but by the 16th Amendment ratified in 1913, the income tax system which remains in effect today became law.
